Angel Road Infant and Nursery School

Angel Road Primary School consultation

13.10.2026

Dear Staff, Parents, Carers and Stakeholders,

Consultation on the proposed amalgamation of Angel Road Infant School and Angel Road Junior School into Angel Road Primary School.

Evolution Academy Trust is seeking your views on a proposal to bring Angel Road Infant School and Angel Road Junior School together as one primary school, to be known as Angel Road Primary School, in 2029. Both schools are part of Evolution Academy Trust.

No final decision has been made, and we welcome your views, questions and suggestions before the Trust Board decides whether to submit a significant change application to the Department for Education (DfE).

What is proposed
We propose to:

  • Formally close Angel Road Junior School as a separately registered academy in 2029.
  • Extend the age range of Angel Road Infant School from 2 – 7 to 2 – 11, incorporating the junior provision.
  • Retain Angel Road Infant School’s existing Unique Reference Number (URN), URN:145628.
  • Rename the continuing academy to Angel Road Primary School.
  • Operate one primary school with a single leadership and governance structure within the Trust.

The formal closure of Angel Road Junior School would form part of the amalgamation. Junior education would continue within Angel Road Primary School. The school would continue to operate on a single site as it has been since the closure of the Junior site in 2021 due to structural issues with the building.

Why are we proposing this change

The proposal is to formalise the amalgamation of the two schools to a single all-through primary school.

The current arrangement of both the infant and junior schools operating from a single site will continue for the foreseeable future, and we believe the benefits of amalgamating the schools to a single primary school would enable us to provide a coherent educational experience from the early years through to the end of Year 6. We believe moving to a single primary school will continue to provide continuity in the curriculum, teaching, pastoral care and support for children as they progress through the school. The amalgamation to a single school also enables us to look at a permanent solution to teaching spaces.

What would this mean for children and families
Our priority would be to maintain continuity of education and provide as little change as possible to the children’s experience.

The proposed primary school would have an age range of 2 – 11 to incorporate our nursery arrangements.

Children on roll at Angel Road Infant School would remain on the roll of the continuing academy. Parents and carers of children attending Angel Road Junior School would need to apply for a place at Angel Road Primary School. Children cannot automatically be transferred from the closing academy’s roll. We would work with the local authority to explain the admissions process, support families and seek any necessary variation to admission arrangements.

Post-amalgamation, children would remain on the roll of Angel Road Primary School from the point they join the school until they finish year 6, or earlier at the parent/guardian’s request.

Leadership governance and staffing
Angel Road Primary School would remain part of Evolution Academy Trust, with the Trust Board retaining overall accountability. The Local Governing Body would also remain in place. There is no current proposal to change staffing provision as part of this amalgamation. As with all schools, at Angel Road we continuously review our staffing requirements in line with current and future pupil numbers and need. If any changes were needed in the future, we would work well in advance to predict staffing requirements and manage our workforce planning accordingly.

How can you share your views
The consultation will run from Tuesday 13th October 2026 to Tuesday 3rd November 2026. Responses to your queries will be sent by Tuesday 10th November 2026, but will be replied to as they arrive to save any delay.

If the Trust decides to proceed, it will submit a Tier 3 significant change application to the DfE. Implementation would be subject to DfE approval, completion of any approval conditions and any other necessary consents.

Yours sincerely,
